Bengal: Mob gets sindoor applied to minor girl by dead boyfriend's hand

The young couple, belonging to different communities, reportedly wanted to get married. However, the girl's mother had objections owing to their age.

In a shocking incident from West Bengal's Bardhaman, a mob forced a minor girl to have sindoor (vermillion) smeared on her hair - a Hindu tradition which indicates the marital status of a woman - from the hand of her deceased boyfriend, who was also a minor and died of suicide. The young couple, belonging to different communities, reportedly wanted to get married. However, the girl's mother objected owing to their age. That led to a dispute between the boy and the girl, following which he took his own life at Kantapukur in Bardhaman. On receiving the information, local police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem. But, it was after the boy's autopsy, that the story took a drastic turn.
