Earlier in the day, Maharashtra, too, announced the lifting of Covid restrictions. “All restrictions imposed during the Covid period in the state have been lifted from Gudipadva. This decision was taken unanimously in the cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Hon'ble Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray,” state health minister Rajesh Tope tweeted.

“The decision to wear masks is voluntary and citizens should use the mask as a precaution, and be vaccinated,” he added.

The move comes after the Centre, in an advisory on March 23, asked states to follow a risk assessment-based approach to opening up and said that all Covid-19 curbs will be lifted across the country from March 31 in view of the continuous dip in infections.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan had written to states underlining the importance of continuing to implement and monitor necessary measures so as not to lose the gains made so far in the fight against coronavirus.
