BCCI media rights, domestic cricket among agenda in Apex Council meeting on July 21

BCCI Apex Council will meet in person for the first time in 2 years on Thursday with the home season media rights, and domestic season schedule on the 12-point agenda.
The media rights for Indian cricket's home season and plans for a full-fledged domestic season are part of the agenda when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Apex Council meets on Thursday. The apex council meeting is all set to be held in Mumbai with the members set to meet in person at the board headquarters after having had the majority of their meetings virtually over the last two years due to Covid-19.
The BCCI is expecting another windfall, this time from the sale of the media rights for the home season from 2023. Notably, the richest cricket board in the world got richer by Rs 48,390 crore after the sale of the Indian Premier League media rights for the 2023-27 cycle in June.
Current rights holder Star India had paid Rs 6138.1 crore for the 2018-2023 cycle but the figure is set to go much higher.
The 12-point agenda includes "update on the 2022-2023 domestic season, gradation of umpires and media rights for cricket in India", news agency Press Trust of India said.
"The media rights will be discussed as well as the upcoming domestic season," the news agency quoted a BCCI official as saying.
Meanwhile, the BCCI Apex Council is also likely to give the green signal for a full-fledged domestic season. The BCCI had done away with bio-bubbles for both international and domestic fixtures earlier this year after the Covid-19 situation came under control.
While the Ranji Trophy could not be held for the first time ever in 2021 due to the pandemic, it returned this year in curtailed form with teams getting to play only three league games.
