Awarding Mamata for poetry is dishonouring rich legacy of Bangla verse: BJP's Swapan Dasgupta

BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta has said awarding Mamata Banerjee for her poetry is dishonuring the rich legacy of the Bangla verse.
After Mamata Banerjee was honoured with the Bangla Academy Award for her "relentless literary pursuit", BJP's Swapan Dasgupta said honouring her for her poetry was a dishonour to the rich legacy of Bangla verse.
He said, " Awarding Mamata for poetry amounts to dishonouring a rich legacy of Bangla verse."
Depoliticisation doesn’t mean shunning politics. It involves insulating vast chunks of socio-cultural life & education from political partisanship. Let’s not judge people by their voting preferences. Awarding Mamata for poetry amounts to dishonouring a rich legacy of Bangla verse
In a series of tweets, Swapan Dasgupta criticised the decision to honour the Bengal Chief Minister. He said, "The over-politicisation of WBengal’s arts & culture and education has touched absurd heights. Bangla Academy’s award to CM Mamata Banerjee for her attempted poetry is just an example of this perversion. What is needed is both good politics & conscious de-politicisation of society."

"Let’s put it this way. If Mamata is to choose a post-political career, she would be unwise to try to make a mark as either a poet or an artist. As for those who put their stamp of approval on her verses, the less said the better," he said in another tweet.
