An avalanche occurred in the catchment of Chorabari Glacier, located behind the Kedarnath temple on Thursday.
An avalanche occurred in the Chorabari Glacier, located behind the world famous Kedarnath Dham, triggering snow fall near the holy temple. The Chorabari Glacier is located at a distance of about four km from the Kedarnath temple. The incident occurred between 4.30 and 5 pm on Thursday.
While no damage has been reported, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been rushed to the spot to monitor the situation. Along with this, the disaster management team of the state government has been asked to conduct a survey.
Uttarakhand has been witnessing heavy rainfall for the last few days. Due to the incessant rainfall, some snow has fallen from the mountain behind the Kedarnath temple.
In the 32-second long video, snow can be seen falling down from the mountain behind the Kedarnath temple. People feared the 2013 Kedarnath tragedy after the avalanche was reported.
Talking about the incident, Mayur Dixit, District Magistrate Rudraprayag, said, "On September 22, between 4 and 5 pm, an avalanche was reported on the Charabari Glacier, following which people living in Kedarnath Dham were alerted. However, no casualties have been reported."
NDRF has been asked to go to the spot to collect the real details of the incident. Along with this, the Disaster Management Department of the State Government has been requested to conduct a survey here, Dixit added.
