Assam floods: Indian Army deploys forces, steps up rescue and relief efforts

The Indian Army has deployed forces and increased its efforts to rescue people stranded in flood-ravaged Assam.

As heavy rains continue to lash Assam, the Indian Army has deployed 11 composite columns in various areas to assist with rescue and relief efforts in the rural districts of Hojai, Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Darrang, Tamulpur, and Kamrup.

Over 3,000 stranded residents were transported to safe locations during these rescue operations.

When the Indian Army rescue teams arrived at the Hojai flood rescue site, they found that the entire habitation had been submerged. Since then, they have been carrying out rescue operations on war footing in the worst-affected areas of Radha Nagar, Komarkata, Doboka, and Hojai Circle in Assam's Hojai district, saving thousands of lives, including children, women, and the elderly.

People who had been stuck on a log for 12 hours, including a woman with a one-month-old child, were among those rescued.

The Army team also responded quickly to a distress call in the Kamrup Rural district, rescuing 136 residents of Kaalajal hamlet. At the same time, operations in the Nalbari district's Katalmora village proceeded, with 36 villagers being rescued. The rescue teams on standby in Tamulpur moved quickly on the night of June 17-18 to rescue stranded people in Dakhin Gandhibari.

The Indian Army has also pledged to provide all assistance and rescue the people till the floods subside and the situation stabilises.
