An Assam-based entrepreneur launched a special tea called Swarna Panam which is made of edible 24 carat gold flakes. The tea promises pure indulgence and comes at a cost of Rs 25,000 per kilogram.

An Assam-based entrepreneur launched tea made of edible pure gold flakes which costs Rs 2.5 lakh per kg. Swarna Panam, the golden drink, is a tea that promises pure indulgence. A specially-crafted tea blend that contains fine petals of 24 carat edible gold and a rare Assam Black tea with honey notes is made from the finest tender leaves of the best tea clones handcrafted to perfection.

The rare Assam orthodox honey tea is handcrafted by a master tea maker from Upper Assam who has created a name in the field of speciality tea and created a sensation in Europe by selling his tea for an astronomical price. Made from the finest tender tea leaves from the best tea clones, this special orthodox tea is withered in a traditional method and hand rolled in cloth.

The tea imbibes notes of jaggery and cocoa flavour with dominant honey character, leaving a sweet after taste. Swarna Panam is an exotic combination of rare tea and precious edible gold.

Swarna Panam, which is India’s only golden tea with 24 carat gold, was launched by a tea start-up, Aromica Tea, on May 21, which marks International Tea Day. Swarna Panam tea comes in a ceramic white gold jar of 100 grams, a glass diffuser pot, a double walled glass cup and a bronze spoon, packed in a black box. The box is priced at Rs 25,000.

“One cup of tea will give you a good taste and the edible 24 carat gold will give you a rich experience. Taste and quality of the tea is very good and it will surely give you an exotic experience. We hope that the people will like this tea,” said Ranjit Baruah, director of Aromica Tea.

“We have imported edible gold petals from France and have prepared a high quality orthodox tea for this brand. We are targeting customers who are fond of tea and gold. We had received 12 orders even before the launch of the product, which encouraged us a lot. We will soon start exporting it,” added Baruah.

Ranjit Baruah worked in the tea sector for nearly two decades before becoming an entrepreneur. Aromica Tea currently has over 47 varieties of value-added teas. Baruah recently made headlines when he launched a CTC tea named after Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky to “honour his valour and courage” in the face of a Russian invasion. He also introduced tea packed in a plantable seed packet with an aim to combat threatened biodiversity and climate change.
