The aggrieved public, who are running from pillar to post to get their genuine demands fulfilled when the officials refuse to heed their appeals, should approach Legal Services Authority officials for getting permanent remedy, Madras High Court Judge Justice M. Dhandapani has said.
Addressing a legal awareness programme organised in Palayamkottai on Friday, Justice Mr. Dhandapani said the judiciary, besides resolving disputes legally, was also monitoring the right enforcement of law for the benefit of the common man.
Whenever the administration failed to do its duty of serving the public, the court would intervene by giving orders to the officials, if it was approached. Since the judiciary’s prime objective was to bring justice to even the remote corners of the country to help a poor man, the Legal Services Authority had been created at taluk, district and the State levels to make the delivery system more effective.
“We have Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority (TNSLSA), which has the duty of enlightening the public about the rights and legal remedies they can get. Hence, the aggrieved public should approach the TNSLSA if their genuine petitions for patta, old age pension, ration card, etc, are rejected, or kept pending for long without any reason. The TNSLSA will appoint an advocate to argue their case in court to get the right legal solution. If you are not satisfied with your advocate’s presentation of your case in the court, you can approach the District Judge, who will appoint another competent lawyer to fetch you the legal remedy,” Justice Mr. Dhandapani said.
He recalled that the Legal Services Authority even appointed a competent advocate to argue the case of Pakistan’s Adnan Kasab, a prime accused in Mumbai terrorist attack case.
The Judge also interacted with the public and the advocates to clarify the doubts raised by them.
As Justice Mr. Dhandapani planted tree saplings at Gangaikondan SIPCOT Industrial Complex, he appealed to the officials to plant native species of trees instead of planting invasive species.
