Apple CEO Tim Cook pledges aid to India amid Covid-19 surge

"Apple will be donating to support and relief efforts on the ground," said CEO Tim Cook.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has pledged aid to India as the Covid-19 crisis is deepening by the day. Cook said Apple will be donating to support and relief efforts on the ground. This comes soon after Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced their plans to support India and various Indian organisations in the fight against the outbreak. India has emerged as the hotspot of Covid-19 globally, reporting over 3.5 lakh cases daily amid an acute shortage of medical supplies. In a tweet, Cook said, “Amid a devastating rise of COVID cases in India, our thoughts are with the medical workers, our Apple family and everyone there who is fighting through this awful stage of the pandemic. Apple will be donating to support and relief efforts on the ground.” It is not immediately clear how this donation will come about. Whether Apple will directly contact nonprofits and make a donation to them or if it will talk to the government to provide aid, is not something Apple has clarified at the moment. Unlike Apple, Microsoft and Google were a little less ambiguous in stating what they are doing to help India in these tough times. While Microsoft said it will help India with the purchase of oxygen concentrators among other resources and technologies, Google has pledged Rs 135 crore in funding, including the grants made to GiveIndia and UNICEF for their relentless efforts towards the affected public.
