American designer Bob Mackie slammed Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala look in Marilyn Monroe's iconic sheer dress and called it a big mistake.
Remember Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala 2022 look? The television reality star made headlines as she walked the red carpet at the fashion extravaganza in Marilyn Monroe’s iconic sheer dress. American fashion designer Bob Mackie, however, has slammed the star for slipping into the iconic outfit.
Bob Mackie, who drew the sketch for the original gown, said that Kim wearing Monroe’s dress was a big mistake.
The sparkling outfit that Kim wore for Met Gala 2022 was first worn by Monroe in 1962 when she performed “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” for former US President John F. Kennedy. The dress was based on a sketch by designer Bob Mackie for designer Jean Louis.
“I thought it was a big mistake,” he said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. He also added that the dress was designed for her (Marilyn) and nobody else should be seen in that dress.
“Marilyn was a goddess. A crazy goddess, but a goddess. She was just fabulous. Nobody photographs like that. And it was done for her. It was designed for her. Nobody else should be seen in that dress,” he said.
Kim Kardashian was also trolled online after she revealed that she had to lose 7kg in 3 weeks to fit into the dress.
