Airtel, Vodafone and Jio customers are scam receiving messages for KYC verification failing which their numbers will be deactivated in 24 hours.
The number of online scams has increased as more users have adopted the digital route of payments and verification in the backdrop of the pandemic. However, along with convenience, such online methods also give rise to several online scams. Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal recently warned the telco’s subscribers to be on the lookout for cyber frauds which involve hackers getting the OTP from users to make payments. Security researchers have also pointed out the vulnerability of user’s data that is leaked through apps. Telecom users are now receiving messages asking for KYC verification failing which the message says the users will lose access to their number in 24 hours. Airtel, Vodafone and even Jio users receiving messages from scamsters in the garb of company officials asking for KYC verification. These messages also send a number saying that it belongs to customer care and that users should call them. Several users on Twitter have posted these fraud messages asking for users' details. Users can easily spot the scam messages as they will have spelling mistakes and grammatical errors, even the company name will not be spelt correctly.
