Air India bus driver, passenger arrested at Lucknow airport for smuggling gold

An Air India bus driver was apprehended in a gold smuggling case after customs officials at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSI) Airport, Lucknow seized 3149.280 grams of gold from a passenger who had arrived at the airport from Muscat.
The Customs officials at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSI) Airport, Lucknow arrested a passenger and seized 3149.280 grams of gold worth Rs 1,68,48,648 from his possession. Upon his instance, an Air India bus driver was also arrested in a gold smuggling case.
On the basis of APIS analysis and intelligence gathering, a passenger was intercepted after he arrived in Lucknow from Muscat.
On checking his hand baggage, 27 gold bars wrapped together with red and black tape were found and a total of 3149.280 grams of gold valued at Rs 1,68,48,648 was seized.
Further, on the basis of interrogation of the passenger, an Air India bus driver was also apprehended, following which he confessed to his involvement, saying that he was supposed to receive the said gold from the passenger to smuggle it outside the airport.
While both the passenger and the Air India bus driver have been arrested and are being produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (Economic Offences), further investigation is underway.
