AIADMK writes to Centre over black flag protest against Governor, law and order situation in Tamil Nadu

The Opposition AIADMK in Tamil Nadu has written a letter to the President, the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the Chief Justice of India regarding the law and order situation in the state and the recent black flag protest against TN Governor RN Ravi.

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) legal wing has written to the President, Prime Minister, Home Minister and Chief Justice of India about the recent black flag protest against Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi and the current law and order situation in the state.

The AIADMK legal wing Joint Secretary, Babu Murugavel, in his letter, strongly condemned the current law and order situation and called the attack on the Governor a national concern. He also said that the incident posed a serious threat to the Governor’s life.

“Activities involving the attack on the convoy of the Hon'ble Governor using stones and flags in a violent manner should not be taken simply, and moreover, it is a security breach which calls for national concern,” read the letter.

The letter further said, “Fortunately, the Governor and his convoy passed unharmed. It is a highly shameful incident and the attempt of a brutal attack on the Constitutional Chief of the State, which obviously proves that the attack is personally aimed at the Governor at the instance of the ruling DMK government. I strongly believe this as a disgrace and attack on the top constitutional functionary of the state of Tamil Nadu due to the ill-motive activity of the DMK functionaries and the non-functional DMK government.”

The letter also said that even though the Governor's travel schedule was given in advance, the government, which has an obligation to protect and safeguard him in the above incident, had failed to provide protection to the governor.

“Keeping in mind that the schedule of the Governor has been notified much prior and well informed, the Tamil Nadu police have their bound duty to take note of such circumstances that have created hindrance to the travel of the Governor through the Intelligence Department. They should have taken necessary steps to protect him from the same, but the tragedy expressly denotes the failure of Tamil Nadu police along with its ancillary wing and the Intelligence Department too,” said the letter.

“There should be an appropriate enquiry to verify whether the incident is a well-planned activity or a failure towards providing protection to the Governor and in both the instances, the DMK government in Tamil Nadu has failed the state,” read the letter.
