AIADMK leader K.P. Munusamy arrested during protest against sexual assault, criticizes DMK government for unsafe environment for women.
AIADMK deputy general secretary K.P. Munusamy courted arrest along with party cadre on Monday during a protest condemning the recent incident of sexual assault on the Anna University campus.
The protest, lead by AIADMK district president and former MP A. Ashok Kumar, also criticised the deteriorating law and order situation in the State.
Speaking at the protest meeting, the AIADMK leader and its deputy general secretary Mr.Munusamy slammed the DMK government over the sexual assault and alleged that the State was unsafe for women. “The DMK and its police force protect dealers in narcotics but not the women,” Mr. Munusamy said. He cited the alleged attack on a woman police inspector in Virudhunagar during a protest, and said such was the plight of women in the State.
He called upon the people to dismiss the DMK government. “The DMK government should be dismissed and that’s in the hands of the people,” Mr. Munusamy said. The protesters were arrested and temporarily held in a wedding hall.
The AIADMK has been in the forefront of Opposition protests against the incident against a student on Anna University campus.
