Tamil Nadu's political scene heats up as AIADMK defends actor-turned-politician Vijay against DMK's alleged smear campaign ahead of his first election.
Tamil Nadu’s political arena saw fresh sparring after the AIADMK came out in support of actor-turned-politician Vijay, accusing the ruling DMK of attempting to damage his reputation as he prepares for his first electoral battle.
The defence of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader came after a petition related to his divorce case surfaced in public discourse, triggering political reactions in the state.
AIADMK leader Sellur Raju alleged that the controversy was being pushed deliberately by the DMK in an attempt to weaken Vijay’s growing political presence.
“This is DMK deliberately doing anything to come back to power,” he said.
“This is being spread to tarnish the image of brother Vijay,” Raju added, accusing the ruling party of orchestrating the issue to discredit the actor-turned-politician.
Meanwhile, Union minister L Murugan said Vijay would soon face the real test of electoral politics in Tamil Nadu.

This moment comes days after the Supreme Court allowed Harish Rana to die with dignity – a historic first court-ordered case of passive euthanasia in India. The court acknowledged the medical opinion that Rana will never recover and that the tubes that feed him and keep him alive are only prolonging his pain.
