Investigators found that the operators would quote hourly or overnight rates and collect money through UPI IDs and mobile numbers, after which victims were reportedly cheated.
The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has busted an online escort service racket and registered a case against around 120 Instagram handles, Facebook pages, and websites allegedly involved in prostitution-related activities and online fraud. According to officials, these social media profiles were being used to lure customers through obscene videos and nude photographs of women.
Investigators found that the operators would quote hourly or overnight rates and collect money through UPI IDs and mobile numbers, after which victims were reportedly cheated.
Ahmedabad Crime Branch DCP Ajit Rajian said digital surveillance and social media monitoring have been intensified in the city as part of a broader crackdown on online exploitation.
"A major campaign is underway against online prostitution and the digital exploitation of women," Rajian said.
During the monitoring process, police discovered that many of these accounts were fake and were allegedly using artificial intelligence tools or morphed images to create obscene content. "Some profiles used AI-generated nude photos of women or manipulated pictures to attract customers," he added.
Once people contacted these accounts, they were offered escort services with fixed rates for short or overnight stays. Payments were collected digitally, but the transactions often turned out to be fraudulent.

The move follows internal challenges faced by both leaders. Ramadoss, founder of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), has been at odds with his son Anbumani Ramadoss over control of the party. Despite being the founder, he has been unable to legally reclaim the party symbol or leadership post. Sasikala, a close aide of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, has also struggled to regain influence within the AIADMK.
