Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested two men for selling T20 World Cup final tickets at three times the original price, with police warning of strict action against black marketeers ahead of the final.
The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch has arrested two individuals for illegally selling tickets for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 Final at inflated prices, ahead of Sunday's blockbuster clash between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Acting on a tip-off, the Crime Branch laid a trap near the Usmanpura Gujarat Vidyapith S.T. bus stand, where two men were stopped and searched. Eight match tickets were recovered from them.
The accused had bought the tickets online in advance and were selling them at three times the original price, charging fans Rs 10,000 per ticket. All tickets have been seized, and legal proceedings have been initiated against both individuals. Police are also investigating whether a wider network is involved in the racket.
The arrests come after Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik had warned on Saturday that black marketeers would face strict action. Speaking to reporters ahead of the final, Malik said the police had put elaborate security arrangements in place for the big day.
"Tomorrow, a historic T20 World Cup final is going to be held here at the Narendra Modi Stadium. For this, the police have completed all preparations. We are deploying over 3,000 police personnel and around 1,000 home guards," he said, according to PTI.
On the issue of black marketing, Malik was clear. "If any such activity comes to our attention, the police will file a case. We also have clear instructions from higher authorities to take immediate action against anyone involved in black marketing," he added
