Ahmedabad: Civil hospital dedicates wards for heatstroke amid rise in temperature

The civil hospital in Ahmedabad has dedicated special wards for heatstroke patients amid scorching heat. The maximum temperature touched the 44 degrees mark in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
With the mercury soaring high in Gujarat, Ahmedabad recorded a maximum temperature of 44.2 degrees on Wednesday.
Amid severe heatwaves, the Ahmedabad civil hospital has dedicated two wards for heatstroke patients.
While one ward has 12 beds for adult patients, the other ward has 12 beds for children below age 12.
Speaking to AajTak, Medical Superintendent Dr Rakesh Joshi said, "We have made two emergency wards for heatstroke patients. A total of 24 beds will be there. One ward for adults and another ward is for children below age 12. Both wards are completely AC wards. Immediate treatment will be given."
"We have also started distributing free water to people near our hospitals. There is an e-rickshaw which provides water for people from 10 am to 6 pm," he added.
On Wednesday, Gandhinagar recorded 43 degrees Celsius, a few notches less than Ahmedabad. Bhuj recorded 43.2 degrees Celsius while Surat logged a temperature of 40.2 degrees.
Talking about the precautions to be taken amid the heatwave, Dr Joshi said, "People should avoid going out between 12 to 6 pm. If you are going out, keep yourself hydrated. Carry water bottles, buttermilk, lemon water or lemon juice. Cover your head. And senior citizens and children should completely avoid going out. If you have any symptoms of dizziness, stomach pain, headache, fever, immediately rush to a nearby doctor."
