After Khamenei's death, Iran sent signal to activate sleeper cells: Report

While no immediate threat to specific locations has been identified, law enforcement agencies are advised to monitor suspicious activity. President Donald Trump said the US is closely tracking the situation.
The United States has intercepted encrypted communications believed to have originated in Iran that could serve as “an operational trigger” for sleeper agents outside the country, according to a federal alert sent to law enforcement agencies.
The alert, reviewed by ABC News, cites “preliminary signals analysis” of a transmission “likely of Iranian origin” that was relayed across multiple countries shortly after the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, was killed in a US-Israeli strike on February 28.
The intercepted message was encoded and appeared to be addressed to “clandestine recipients” with the necessary encryption key, a method used to send instructions to covert operatives or sleeper assets without relying on internet or cellular networks.
The alert states the transmissions “could be intended to activate or provide instructions to prepositioned sleeper assets operating outside the originating country.” It adds that while the exact contents remain unknown, “the sudden appearance of a new station with international rebroadcast characteristics warrants heightened situational awareness.”
Officials emphasised that the alert does not point to any immediate threat at a particular location. However, law enforcement agencies are advised to step up monitoring of suspicious radio-frequency activity.
If confirmed, the intercepts would support concerns that sleeper cells in the West could be mobilized for retaliation following the US-Israeli strike on Iran.

Over the past week, social media has been abuzz with rumours claiming that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was killed in an Iranian missile strike. However, there remains no credible evidence. It coincided with his reported absence from cabinet meetings. However, Israel has released videos and images to assert that Netanyahu is alive.
