The explosion at a madrasa is the third blast to rock Kabul in the last 15 days, specifically targeting clerics.
Just two days after the Taliban celebrated the first anniversary of its takeover of Afghanistan, a massive blast at a madrasa in Kabul’s Kotel Khairkhana on Wednesday killed at least 21 and injured around 40 during evening prayers.
The explosive was placed in the area from where the Imam of the mosque leads prayers, an intelligence officer told India Today TV.
“One of the leading Taliban clerics, Molvi Amir Kabli, was leading the prayers when the blast was triggered. He was killed on the spot,” he said.
It is the third blast to rock Kabul in the last 15 days, specifically targeting clerics.

One of the eye witnesses told India Today TV that among those killed and injured, some are believed to be members of the Taliban Mujahedeen, since the madrasa was run by a Taliban cleric.
The Taliban, last August, crushed the Resistance Front led by Amrullah Saleh and Ahmad Masood, which ultimately led the group to sweep power in Afghanistan. Most of the Resistance Front fighters were either killed or they fled to Tajikistan. Many surrendered to the Taliban and joined the forces.
