After operating in temporary locations for over 15 years, Kendriya Vidyalaya in Karaikal has taken a major step towards having a permanent building. On Friday, 8.6 acres of land in Poomangalam village near Thirunallar was officially handed over by the Karaikal Education Department to the school administration, paving the way for construction work.
Kendriya Vidyalaya, Karaikal, was started in 2010 in a temporary facility. Because of delays in land allotment by the Puducherry government, the school had to shift between multiple temporary locations. It is currently functioning out of the former JIPMER Karaikal premises on Beach Road.
The Puducherry government has now allotted 8.6 acres of land at Poomangalam village for the construction of the school’s permanent building. Soil testing has been completed at the site, and architectural plans have been finalised. According to sources, the Central Public Works Department is ready to begin construction.
At the official land handover event held at the Karaikal Education Department office, Chief Educational Officer (CEO) P. Vijayamohana handed over the necessary documents to E. Rangaswamy, Principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Karaikal.
Principal Mr. Rangaswamy said: “We are happy that the long-pending issue of land allotment has been resolved. The CPWD is prepared to start construction immediately, and both land transfer and building work will progress simultaneously.”
