Arvind Kejriwal relaunches AAP's students' wing as ASAP, focusing on Delhi University Student Union elections and social activities.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday (May 20, 2025) relaunched the party’s students’ wing, which has been renamed as Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP).
The relaunch of the students’ wing comes just days after 15 AAP councillors in Delhi quit the party and formed a new political party. The relaunch of Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP) took place at the Constitution Club of India in central Delhi.
The students’ wing, earlier known as Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS), was largely unsuccessful in Delhi’s student politics. The main face of the CYSS, Vandana Singh, had distanced from the AAP last year along with party Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal.
This is the first time Mr. Kejriwal did a public event in Delhi outside the party headquarters since he and the party lost the Delhi Assembly election in February this year.
Earlier this month, The Hindu had reported that Mr. Kejriwal had almost disappeared from the Delhi political scene and is focusing on Punjab, leaving matters in Delhi to senior leaders Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj.
According to sources, the ASAP will put all its strength in fighting the Delhi University Student Union elections.
“The student organisation will also have a social wing which will increase the participation of students in social and service activities,” a party source said.
