AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan arrested after clash erupts during demolition drive in Delhi's Madanpur Khadar

AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan was arrested by the Delhi Police on Thursday night after he participated in a protest against the demolition drive in Delhi's Madanpur Khadar.
Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan was arrested by the Delhi Police on Thursday night after a clash broke out between protesters and the police during a demolition drive in Delhi's Madanpur Khadar earlier in the day. Five others were also arrested.
Amanatullah Khan participated in a protest against the BJP-ruled municipal corporation's anti-encroachment drive in the area and was detained by the police on Thursday afternoon. His close aide confirmed to India Today that he was detained and taken to Kalkaji police station.
At the station, a case was registered against him under sections of rioting and obstructing government work.
After his arrest, he was taken for a medical examination.
The anti-encroachment drive in Madanpur Khadar on Thursday saw stiff opposition from locals, who gathered on the streets and raised slogans.
Clashes erupted between locals and police. Stones were pelted and one policeman got injured. The police resorted to lathi-charge to control the crowd.
Present at the site of the clash, Amanatullah Khan had said, "I am ready to go to jail if it saves the houses of poor people. There is no encroachment here. I will support them [civic body] in demolition if there is any encroachment."
