From the devastating Wayanad landslides and the fire in Kuwait in which 24 Keralites perished to landslide political victories posted by some candidates in bypolls, the year 2024 turned out to be an action-packed one for the State.
A glance at the year that was.
January 30: A trial court at Mavelikara awarded death sentence to 14 activists of the Popular Front of India in the murder case of BJP leader Ranjith Sreenivasan of Alappuzha.
February 8: The Kerala Cabinet staged protest against the Government of India at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi.
February 12: An explosion in an illicit stockpile of firecrackers at a temple in Choorakkad, near Thripunithura, killed two persons and damaged 270 houses.
February 18: The death of J.S. Sidharthan, a student of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Wayanad, who was found hanging, ignited a series of political protests and arrest of a few of his college mates, who reportedly were the members of the Students Federation of India.
April 26: Kerala voted at Lok Sabha polls and 71% of the electorate exercised their franchise in 20 constituencies.
