
8 killed as military deployed at US consulate in Karachi opens fire at protesters

The protests erupted following reports of the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in joint US-Israel strikes, triggering anger among Shia groups across the city. Authorities used tear gas and imposed road closures as security forces prevented protesters from reaching the diplomatic mission.
At least eight people were killed and more than 30 injured after firing allegedly occurred during clashes between protesters and security personnel deployed at the United States Consulate in Pakistan’s Karachi on Sunday, according to local media reports, as demonstrations erupted over US and Israeli strikes on Iran.
Rescue officials earlier confirmed that at least five people were injured when protests against the strikes turned violent outside the consulate, with tensions rapidly escalating as crowds tried to advance toward the diplomatic compound.
Protests organised by Shia groups intensified near Karachi’s diplomatic zone, with demonstrators marching from Sultanabad towards Mai Kolachi while chanting slogans condemning Washington and Tel Aviv following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Authorities sealed major routes including MT Khan Road and nearby intersections after protesters gathered in large numbers. Police fired tear gas shells to disperse crowds after demonstrators allegedly hurled stones and attempted to breach barricades.
Traffic police issued advisories urging commuters to avoid affected areas amid continuing unrest.
US Marine security personnel stationed inside the consulate compound were placed on high alert as protesters approached restricted zones.

Over the past week, social media has been abuzz with rumours claiming that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was killed in an Iranian missile strike. However, there remains no credible evidence. It coincided with his reported absence from cabinet meetings. However, Israel has released videos and images to assert that Netanyahu is alive.
