
8 held with gold worth Rs 3.9 crore at Mumbai airport

Eight Indian passengers were arrested on charges of gold smuggling at the Mumbai airport on Friday. A total of 8.4 kg gold valued at Rs 3.9 crore was recovered from the accused's possession.
The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at the Mumbai International Airport arrested eight Indian passengers on charges of smuggling gold dust in wax. According to the Customs officials, the accused were arrested on Friday, June 17.
“Eight Indian passengers coming from Jeddah to Mumbai via Indigo flight no. 6E-1832 were intercepted at Mumbai Airport. Subsequently, a search was conducted which led to the recovery of gold dust in wax,” said an officer.
Gold dust in wax was concealed in the rectum of all 8 passengers, said officials, adding that two passengers were also carrying gold dust in their underwear.
A total of 8.4 kg gold valued at Rs 3.9 crore has been seized.
