
79% professionals are looking to upskill in 2022, surpassing 2021 levels: Report

Data science, artificial intelligence and software development are the most preferred domains, as per the 'Upskilling Outlook in India 2022', a report by edtech company Great Learning.
An annual report highlighting the trends, insights, and thought-provoking numbers in the professional upskilling space has been released by Great Learning, one of India's leading EdTech companies for higher education and professional upskilling. As the nature of work evolves, the trends in the annual report 'Upskilling Outlook in India 2022' indicate growth in awareness and desire to upskill in today's latest technologies.
The report also points out the increasing intent of Indians towards upskilling for a better career. It further highlights motivations, incentives and barriers to upskilling.
From an already steep number in 2021, the intent to upskill in 2022 has reached a record high with 79 percent of professionals (including freshers) planning to upskill.
Professionals from Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad showed the highest intent towards upskilling in 2021 and 2022.Amongst the bigger cities, people in Mumbai were the most invested in upskilling in 2022, followed by Delhi and Hyderabad. However, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad are still the top cities when it comes to demand for tech and data domains as observed in Great Learning's platform data.
Nagpur, Ernakulam, Mysore, Jaipur and Indore shine as the fastest-growing cities:
With the rise of remote working and online hiring, tier 2/3 cities have also shown a huge intent for upskilling, with Nagpur, Ernakulam, Mysore, Jaipur and Indore topping the list of fastest-growing cities.
The IT, BFSI and Consulting sectors continue to dominate due to increased digital transformation and the dynamic nature of the business. With the continued pandemic, professionals from healthcare and education are also looking to upskill in data and cutting-edge tech skills.
