48-year-old man from Thalavady, Kerala dies of cholera; second death reported in state in 2025.
A 48-year-old man from Thalavady in Kuttanad in Alappuzha district of Kerala, who was undergoing treatment for cholera, died at a private hospital in Thiruvalla in the early hours of Friday (May 16, 2025).
The deceased has been identified as Raghu P.G. of Ward VI in Thalavady grama panchayat.
Officials said Raghu had comorbidities. He was initially hospitalised with fever and diarrhoea at a private hospital. After his condition worsened, he was shifted to the hospital in Thiruvalla.
The Health department and the local panchayat have launched disease surveillance and sanitisation operations at Thalavady. Officials said health workers had collected water samples from wells and other waterbodies in the region and sent them for testing.
This is the second cholera death reported in Kerala in 2025. Last month, a 63-year-old man, Ajai Chandran from Kowdiar in Thiruvananthapuram, died of cholera.

After being repeatedly disrupted for three consecutive days over issues ranging from the Governor’s address and alleged disrespect to the national anthem to demands for the resignation of the Excise Minister, among others, normalcy finally returned to the Legislative Council on Friday, with proceedings commencing.
