At least three people were injured when a dispute over land between two groups led to clashes, stone pelting and arson in Karedi in MP’s Rajgarh district on Wednesday.
At least three people, including a policeman, were injured when a land dispute between two groups took a violent turn in Karedi village in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh district on Wednesday.
As news of the clash spread in the village, an angry mob went on a vandalism spree, torching shops and houses. District Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma said a Maruti van and two motorbikes were also consigned to the flames. When police reached the scene, miscreants pelted stones and shattered the glass of a police vehicle and the Khilchipur SDM’s car.

Police fired tear gas shells to disperse the mob and called for back-up. In the wake of the violence, heavy police deployment was seen in Karedi on Thursday. The situation is tense but under control, District Collector Harsh Vikas told India Today.
DSP Pradeep Sharma said the entire incident was triggered when a man attacked another from a different community with an iron rod after the two had a verbal spat over a land dispute. The two men’s families got involved in the matter and in the ensuing scuffle, the victim’s brother was also hit on the head with the iron rod.

The injured brothers were admitted to Rajgarh District Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Word spread of the skirmish between the two groups, a crowd gathered, set fire to the attacker’s shop and house, then went on a rampage, said DSP Pradeep Sharma.
