Three people drowned in the Thenpennai river in Cuddalore on Monday after ignoring the instructions of authorities to stay away from overflowing water bodies. Nearly 50 people, including women and children, from Mullikiran village gathered near the Thenpennai river to watch the rising water levels due to the monsoon rains. 15-year-old Lokesh was caught in the rising water levels, and when 20-year-old Madhavan tried to save the boy, he too was dragged away by the water.
