28-year-old man arrested for sending over 50 hoax bomb threat emails across India

A major breakthrough has been achieved in the nationwide hoax bomb threat case after investigators arrested the man accused of sending a series of threatening emails that triggered panic across multiple Indian cities.

The Gujarat Crime Branch, in a joint operation with the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Unit, arrested 28-year-old Sourav Biswas from West Bengal for allegedly sending bomb threat emails targeting schools, courts, metro stations and financial institutions across the country.

Officials said the arrest marks the first major breakthrough in the investigation into a wave of threatening emails that caused widespread alarm among security agencies and the public.

According to investigators, the accused allegedly sent more than 50 bomb threat emails over the past five days to locations in Mumbai, Delhi, Gujarat and several other states. Among the targets were schools, metro stations and even the stock exchange in Mumbai.

The man also triggered panic in Mumbai on February 27 when, at around 8:46 am, threatening emails were sent via the internet to several schools and metro stations in Mumbai, warning of bomb blasts within two days. The message immediately set off alarm bells among security agencies, prompting emergency checks and evacuations at multiple locations.

Following the threat, a case was registered at the Dindoshi Police Station in Mumbai and a technical investigation was launched. Cyber experts began tracking the digital trail of the email, eventually identifying the source in the New Barrackpore area of West Bengal.
