22 dead in rain-related incidents in UP, IMD predicts more downpour; orange alert in Maha districts

As many as 22 people died as heavy rainfall caused wall collapse and damaged several houses in various parts of Uttar Pradesh. The IMD has warned of more rainfall in the state and has also issued an orange alert for Palghar and Thane.
As heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in Uttar Pradesh, at least 22 people lost their lives in separate rain-related incidents in the state on Friday. There seems to be no relief for the people of UP as the weather agency has predicted more rainfall for eastern parts of the state on Saturday.
"Fairly widespread/ widespread light/moderate rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall & thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Uttarakhand & Uttar Pradesh during 15th-17th and over West Madhya Pradesh on 15th September, 2022," the IMD said.

As many as nine labourers were buried alive under the debris when an under-construction wall in Lucknow collapsed on their huts.
Officials told news agency PTI that the 13 other deaths were reported from Unnao (five), Fatehpur (three), Prayagraj (two), Sitapur, Raebareli and Jhansi (one each).
