20 GW green power generation capacity mooted by 2030: Deputy CM

The State Government is working towards installing a generation capacity of 20 gigawatt (GW) or 20,000 megawatt (MW) of green power by 2030 in Telangana, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who holds the portfolio of energy too, has stated.

Speaking at an event organised by the Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TGREDCO), as part of the energy conservation week, on Friday, he said that the government was preparing a special plan for developing the 20 GW of green power in the State by 2030. He released an energy conservation calendar published by TGREDCO.

The State Government was also aiming another 20 GW green power generation capacity in the next five years (by 2035). All technology-based measures were being taken for energy conservation and efficient use of energy.

Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of TGREDCO V. Anitha explained about the activities taken up by the organisation, and those taken by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) for the last one year.

Ms. Anitha stated that Telangana is at the top in the implementation of ECBC in the country and a total of 392.21 million units of energy was saved with the construction of 879 commercial buildings following ECBC norms. Telangana is also the first State in the country to bring Cool Roof Policy 2023-28.

A total of 43 industrial units were recognised as the designated customers of the perform, achieve and trade (PAT) programme. Energy equivalent to 0.24 million tonnes of oil was also saved in the first two cycles of PAT. By implementing demand side management, another 40 MW power was saved in Greater Hyderabad.

Further, she stated that about 17.23 lakh conventional bulbs were changed with LED bulbs used for street lighting in 73 towns and gram panchayats in Telangana and another 32 lakhs of LED bulbs, 20 watt LED tubelights and 28 watt BLDC fans were supplied to consumers at concessional rates to save another 439 million units of energy.
