CPI plans statewide protests on March 24 in Andhra Pradesh, demanding land allocation and financial aid for the poor.
The CPI will organise dharnas all across Andhra Pradesh on March 24 demanding the election promise of giving two and three cents of land in urban and rural areas respectively to eligible poor be implemented. A poster on the proposed agitation was released at the Gandhi statue, on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, CPI district secretary Sk. Rahaman demanded that the TDP-led Alliance government should sanction the land as promised besides extending financial assistance of ₹5 lakh for the construction of the houses. The State government should bear the rent for the eligible poor living in rented houses. He also sought old age pensions to eligible senior citizens, widow pensions, and pensions for differently-abled persons.
Mr. Rahaman said that the poor are already reeling under the spiralling prices of essential commodities and high electricity tariff. The State government should implement its poll promises.
CPI State council member M. Pydiraju, district assistant secretaries Kasireddy Satyanarayana, Pathrapalli Chandrasekhar, executive members CN Kshetrapal, R. Srinivasa Rao, N. Nagabushana Rao and A. Devudamma were among those who participated in the programme.
