2 dead while taking selfie on railway track in West Medinipur

Two men died in an accident while taking a selfie on a railway track in West Medinipur on Saturday.

Two men died after a train hit them while taking a selfie on a railway line in West Medinipur district of West Bengal on Sunday. One person is in critical condition.

In the Rangamati area on the outskirts of Medinipur town, there is a picnic space on the banks of the Kangsavati River near the railway bridge. A group of youth including Mithun Khan, 36, and Abdul Gain, 32, came to the place for a picnic.

Mithun and Abdul, along with their friend, started taking selfies on the railway line. According to eyewitnesses, a local train from Medinipur to Howrah came on that line while the deceased were taking selfies. The locals claimed that the driver of the train repeatedly blew the horn at that time but the youth did not show any frown. When the train hit them, they fell far away from the train line. Two out of three people died on the spot.

After the incident, various railway officials rushed there. After a preliminary investigation, Railway Senior Section Engineer Biswajit Bala said, "Everyone is forbidden to climb on this part of the railway line. Despite the ban, many people are taking selfies lying on the train tracks. However, they did not move and ran along the line. So this accident happened. "
