₹350 crore sanctioned for integrated bus stand and allied projects

A Government Order has been issued sanctioning ₹350 crore for the integrated bus terminus and related projects at Panjapur, according to Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru.
Inspecting the site identified for establishing the integrated bus terminus and the wholesale vegetable market for vegetables and fruits at Panjapur, Mr. Nehru, who was accompanied by Director of Municipal Administration Ponnaiah and Collector S. Sivarasu, said that out of ₹350 crore, a sum of ₹140 crore had been earmarked for the bus terminus project alone. About ₹76 crore would be spent on the lorry and truck terminus project and ₹75 crore for roads, storm water drains, and other infrastructural facilities at the bus terminus. A sum of ₹59 crore had been apportioned for multi-use facilitation centre.
The Minister said that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the bus terminus project had already been prepared. After the critical review, the DPR was presented before Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. It was under the consideration of the Additional Chief Secretary of the Municipal Administration and Drinking Water Supply. After the clearance, it would be sent for the Administrative Sanction and Technical Sanction. Once it received the final clearance, tenders would be floated for the projects.
Mr. Nehru said that the consultant had also submitted the final feasibility report on February 18 for the bus terminus project. Officials had been asked to expedite the process for floating tenders as early as possible.
He said that there was a need to strengthen the surface at the proposed site. The top layer of the surface would have to be removed before filling up. It was estimated that it would require ₹37 crore for it. A tender would soon be floated for the surface strengthening project. All other construction activities would be started after the surface strengthening project.
Mr. Nehru said the Corporation had more than 500 acres at Panjapur. Of it, 44 acres would be allotted for the bus terminus project and 22 acres for establishing the wholesale vegetable and fruit market. There was no space constraint for the projects. If needed, the Corporation authorities had been asked to allot more land for the projects.
