
Yumnam Khemchand Singh stakes claim to form government in Manipur, set to be CM

BJP leader Yumnam Khemchand Singh claims to form a government in Manipur, currently under President’s rule since February 2025.
BJP Manipur Legislature Party Leader Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday (February 4, 2026) staked a claim to form a government in Manipur.
Manipur has been under the President’s rule since February 2025.
Mr. Khemchand met Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the Governor of Manipur at Lok Bhavan in Imphal, and submitted a claim to form a BJP-led NDA government in the State.
Two Kuki-Zo MLAs L.M. Khaute and Ngursanglur Sanate were also present.
“I am confident that with the formation of the new Council of Ministers, peace and development will serve as the guiding principles of the new government,” Mr. Khemchand said in a post on Facebook.
The oath ceremony is expected to happen shortly.
