On India's Republic Day, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China views the relationship as one in which both sides "help each other succeed," and emphasised the value of the "dragon and the elephant dancing together," which he described as the appropriate path for both countries.
As India bears the brunt of US President Donald Trump’s tariff war, New Delhi received warm, neighbourly Republic Day greetings from Beijing, with Chinese President Xi Jinping saying that "dragon and elephant dancing together" is the right choice for both countries.
Stressing that it is the "right choice" for the two sides to tango, Chinese envoy to India Xu Feihong joined in, saying, "It should be the right choice for China and India to be good neighbourly friends and partners who help each other succeed, and have the dragon and the elephant dance together."
Jinping on Monday extended greetings to Indian President Droupadi Murmu on the 77th Republic Day, describing India and China as "good neighbours, friends and partners."
President Xi also noted that the development of relations between India and China aligns with the fundamental interests of both nations and contributes significantly to world peace and prosperity.
He reiterated that China views the relationship as one where both sides "help each other succeed," and emphasised the value of "dragon and the elephant dancing together," which he said is the appropriate path for both countries.
President Xi expressed hope that both nations will adhere to the consensus that they are "partners for cooperation and opportunities for development," strengthen strategic communication, expand exchanges and cooperation, address each other's concerns, and promote the healthy and stable development of China-India relations.

Two years ago, former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina warned of an alleged plot by a 'white man' to establish a Christian state. In 2025, the Mizoram CM said Ukraine war veterans were using the state to enter Myanmar. The arrest of 7 foreign nationals by the NIA has prompted experts to suggest that the incidents might be connected.

Pradyut Bordoloi was a dyed-in-the-wool Congressi who vowed to never leave the party. The physical attack on him in 2025, and the Congress embracing "communal elements" pushed the Lok Sabha MP into joining the BJP. Bordoloi's exit from the Congress after three decades is significant for the party and Assam's politics.
