
Woman, grandchild crushed to death by car in Tamil Nadu

A 65-year-old woman and her grandchild were crushed to death by a car in an accident in Tamil Nadu's Nagapattinam on Monday.
Fathima Beevi (65) and her 12-year-old grandchild Nurul Fathima were crushed to death by a car on Monday in Tamil Nadu’s Nagapattinam. The two were walking when a speeding car rammed into them.
The accident was captured on CCTV installed at a shop nearby. The footage showed that several others, including a man on a cycle, nearly missed death in the incident.
The Thalainayar Police arrested the car driver, Lakshmanan, and said further investigations in the case are underway.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
