Initially, police did not suspect the daughter’s involvement and considered the wife as the prime suspect.
The HSR layout police have booked the wife and daughter for the murder of former Karnataka police chief Om Prakash in Bengaluru on April 20. They have been booked under Section 103 of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023 for murder.
The mother-daughter duo — Pallavi and Kriti — have been detained. They are being questioned on the sequence of events and their role in the crime. They are likely to be arrested later in the day.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Om Prakash got into an argument with Pallavi during lunch at their home in HSR Layout. The argument escalated, and resulted in his murder. A kitchen knife was used to stab him multiple times, and a glass bottle was broken on him. Pallavi reportedly called her friend, the wife of another retired IPS officer, and claimed to have ‘finally killed the monster’. She, in turn, alerted the police. Om Prakash’s daughter, Kriti, was in the house when the incident took place, and her role is yet to be determined.
However, both mother and daughter have been booked for murder in the FIR registered by the H. S. R. Layout police based on a complaint lodged by Om Prakah’s son Karthikesh, 38. Karthikesh lives separately in the same four-storey building. He was away on work when the incident took place.
In his complaint, Karthikesh alleged that both his mother and sister suffer from depression and would quarrel with his father every day. He suspects that both may have killed his father.
In his complaint, Karthikesh also claimed that for the past one week, Om Prakash had been staying at his sister Sarita Kumari’s house, as Pallavi had been issuing him death threats. On April 18, Kriti went to her aunt’s house and forced her father to return, he said.
On April 20 afternoon, he was away at Domlur on work when his neighbour informed him of his father’s murder. Upon arriving at the house, he saw knives and a broken bottle on the floor. Hs father was dead and the police was at the house, he stated.
