What is Delhi's Rs 1 lakh Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana to keep girls in school?

The Delhi government has introduced the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana, an upgraded Ladli Scheme offering phased education-linked deposits of up to Rs 56,000, growing to over Rs 1 lakh at maturity to support girls' education and prevent dropouts.
In a major push to strengthen girls' education and financial security, the Delhi government has announced the 'Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana', a revamped version of the long-running Ladli Scheme.
The initiative aims to ensure that no girl child in the capital is forced to drop out of education due to financial constraints, by offering structured, education-linked financial support from birth till graduation.
Announcing the scheme, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the new framework addresses long-standing gaps in the earlier scheme while ensuring timely and transparent benefits through direct digital transfers.
The 'Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana' is an upgraded social welfare programme that provides phased financial assistance to eligible girls at key educational milestones. While the government will deposit up to Rs 56,000 over the years, the amount will accrue interest and mature into more than Rs 1 lakh, which will be credited directly to the beneficiary's Aadhaar-linked bank account.
"The objective is clear, no girl should leave education because of a lack of funds," the Chief Minister said while unveiling the scheme.
Launched in 2008, the Ladli Scheme was designed to support the education of girls. However, the new government found serious implementation gaps after assuming office.
