What is BodhanAI, and how will it bring AI to every classroom in India?
India Today
India's education system is entering an AI-driven era with BodhanAI at IIT Madras spearheading the adoption of artificial intelligence in classrooms, teacher training, and skilling to improve employability and create a responsible, inclusive national education framework backed by the Ministry of Education.
India is preparing for a major shift in how technology shapes learning, with artificial intelligence set to become a core enabler across classrooms, teacher training, and skilling ecosystems. The Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence for Education at IIT Madras, known as BodhanAI, will play a central role in this transition starting next academic session.
The initiative, backed by the Ministry of Education, aims to integrate AI tools across all levels of education, from pre-primary schooling to higher education, while strengthening teacher preparedness and student employability.
BodhanAI serves as the national Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence in Education, operating under the IIT Madras Bodhan AI Foundation.
It has been tasked with creating a robust digital public infrastructure that supports scalable, inclusive, and innovation-driven AI solutions across the education ecosystem.
By creating a common architecture and offering application programming interfaces (APIs) to start-ups and institutions, BodhanAI will allow developers to build AI-driven education tools with assured accuracy and interoperability.
At the inauguration of Bodhan.ai, the AI Centre of Excellence for Education at IIT Madras, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given us a clarion call to make India AI-ready, while strongly emphasising the development and deployment of ethical, responsible, and inclusive AI. This conclave is a significant step towards realising that vision."
