What happened in Maharashtra could soon become problem for entire nation: Aaditya Thackeray

Speaking to India Today, Shiv Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray said that he has been touring in Maharashtra for the blessings of the people and not votes.

In an exclusive conversation with India Today, Shiv Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray said that he has been touring Maharashtra to seek the blessings of people and not for votes. Stating that the country's future is bright but the right to speak up against issues is being suppressed, Thackeray referred to the political turmoil in Maharashtra and said that the same could happen for the entire country.

"India’s future is bright but the politics is changing and voices are being suppressed and this is problematic. What happened in Maharashtra could soon become a problem for the entire nation," he said.

He said that the rebel camp led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde rebelled because they could not stand Balasahib's (Bal Thackeray) son taking over as the chief minister of Maharashtra.

Deeming his father's (Uddhav Thackeray) chief ministerial tenure as the root cause of the fallout, the 32-year-old MLA said, "We paid the price of trusting the wrong people but we will keep working for people."

"These people who do wrong act and take Balasahib's name and the gundas (goons) who’ve never heard or seen the real Balasahib. Such people and their acts have no place in today’s political scene. Can’t say if it is okay for the Shinde government," he continued.

Thackeray also said that he would abstain from commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but emphasised that the Thackeray family has been serving people for six generations and 'will continue' to do so.

"I am touring Maharashtra, not for votes but to seek the blessings of the people," he said while adding that aggression amongst people has been coming out 'naturally'.
