Hospital Superintendent Deepika Singhal said that before police involvement, a resolution was reached between the driver, the affected woman, and her family, resulting in no further action.
In a disturbing incident at Sola Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, the driver of the hospital's dean's office, Vishnu Makwana, was found secretly recording videos of women in the X-ray department. The videos were made without consent, breaching the privacy of female patients.
After the hospital became aware of the matter, instead of filing a police complaint, the authorities decided to resolve the matter internally and allowed the driver to go free. The decision has sparked a major controversy.
Hospital Superintendent Deepika Singhal said that once the secret recordings were discovered, hospital staff intended to hand the driver over to the police. They also contacted the 181 women's helpline for assistance. However, before police involvement, a resolution was reached between the driver, the affected woman, and her family, resulting in no further action.
To prevent such incidents in the future, the hospital has decided to increase security at certain points. The dean's office has also been instructed to take disciplinary action against the driver for his conduct.
Makwana, originally from Odisha, has been working as the dean's office driver for 15 years. His position allowed him easy access to the X-ray room, which he exploited to secretly record multiple videos of women. All the recorded videos have been deleted following the incident.
Questions remain about how long Makwana had been recording these videos and whether he had shared them further. The hospital sources have not provided details on these aspects.
