Wedding gifts given by parents without demand not dowry, rules Kerala High Court

The Kerala High Court has ruled that wedding gifts given by parents without demand do not fall under the Dowry Act.

The Kerala High Court has ruled that gifts given by parents to their daughters on wedding do not come under dowry if bridegroom's family did not make the demand.

The court said such gifts are for the welfare of the bride and do not count as dowry under the Dowry Prohibition Act.
