The sudden rain brought with it much-needed respite from the searing heat as boisterous winds uprooted trees in several places.
A tree fell on BJP MP Parvesh Verma’s car, cracking the windshield and completely smashing the vehicle as heavy showers lashed the national capital this evening. The MP from West Delhi was seen inspecting the damage to his sedan after the rain stopped.
The sudden rain brought with it much-needed respite from the searing heat. Boisterous winds uprooted trees in several places while the downpour caused massive traffic snarls.
The rains brought down the temperature of the national capital by around 16 degrees. Delhi-NCR witnessed strong winds with a heavy downpour that uprooted trees and led to traffic congestion in many areas.
“Following the heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, temperatures dropped by around 13 degrees at Palam and by around 16 degrees at Safdarjung. Between 4.20 pm and 5.40 pm, the temperature fell from 40 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung,” the India Meteorological Department said.
Water-logging was reported in several areas. Earlier, the IMD had predicted thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds with a speed of 30-50 Km/h over West Delhi, North-West Delhi, South Delhi, South-West Delhi and adjoining areas.

The move follows internal challenges faced by both leaders. Ramadoss, founder of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), has been at odds with his son Anbumani Ramadoss over control of the party. Despite being the founder, he has been unable to legally reclaim the party symbol or leadership post. Sasikala, a close aide of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, has also struggled to regain influence within the AIADMK.
