After Biplab Deb resigned and Manik Saha was appointed the new CM of Tripura on Saturday, BJP MLA Ram Prasad Paul broke down and even attempted to break a chair.
Biplab Kumar Deb resigned as the chief minister of Tripura and was replaced by Manik Saha on Saturday. Deb himself proposed Manik Saha's name for the post at the BJP's legislative party meet and was quick to post a congratulatory tweet.
But the change in guard was not accepted as peacefully and happily by all BJP's lawmakers in Tripura.
Chaos erupted after the crucial party meet in Agartala when BJP MLA and minister Ram Prasad Paul began protesting. In videos, an agitated and tearful Paul could be seen shouting. He even threatened to quit the party and attempted to break a chair.
Others, including Union minister Pratima Bhoumik, tried to placate him.
As per sources, Ram Prasad Paul's outburst was rooted in his desire for Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, a member of the erstwhile Tripura royal family, to be made the next CM.
Reacting to the incident, the opposition All India Trinamool Congress tweeted, "Hooliganism at best! From Ram Prasad Pal to several other BJP MLAs, Ministers and leaders - breaking into chaos after Biplab Deb's resignation proves once again that the state, under BJP, is headed to its darkest times! #ShameOnBJP"
