Want Your Phone Battery To Last Longer? This 2-Second Trick Might Be The Answer

We definitely didn’t know this feature existed.
When your phone battery is about to die, every minute counts –– and there’s one surprising way to conserve battery you may not have thought about if you have an iPhone: putting it face down.
The way your iPhone is positioned can make all the difference to your phone’s battery longevity. Since the iOS 9 release in 2015, iPhones have had a feature called “Facedown Detection,” which is on by default. When you place your phone screen-side down on a surface, the iPhone’s light and proximity sensors will keep your screen dark even when you have texts and notifications flooding your phone.
If you have pings or vibrating notifications, you will still hear them, but the screen itself will not turn on, which can help prevent battery drain.
“The screen uses a significant amount of power. When the iPhone is face down, the screen turns off — even if you get notifications or have ‘Always on Display’ toggled on,” said Arthur Shi, a battery expert and electrical engineer for iFixit, a website that allows people to share tech user manuals and sell phone parts for do-it-yourself repairs.
You don’t need an iPhone to access this kind of battery tip. The Google Pixel 3 has a similar “Flip to Shhh” feature that puts your phone in “Do Not Disturb” mode when its screen is face down on a surface.
