Former India wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani reckons that Virat Kohli should be a certainty in India's squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup squad.
Former India wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani believes that a player with Virat Kohli's abilities and experience deserves to be in India's squad for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup and could be a game-changer in the showpiece event this year.
Kohli is going through one of the leanest phases of his career. The star batter managed just 33 runs in 2 ODIs in the recently-concluded ODI series and 12 runs across 2 T20Is in England. Kohli returned from a break for the much-anticipated Birmingham Test but the star batter managed just 31 runs across 2 innings as his century drought had extended beyond 2 years.
Virat Kohli will not be part of India's ODI and T20I squads for the tour of the West Indies, starting July 22. The star batter has been rested for the 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is and is expected to return only for the Asia Cup T20 later this year.
"Virat Kohli has loads of experience. He should be in the T20 World Cup squad. Once Kohli returns to form, he will be unstoppable. He could be a game-changer. A player with Kohli's experience and abilities deserves to be in the World Cup squad," Kirmani told Dainik Jagran.
Kirmani reckoned that Kohli should be given a chance considering his contribution to the national team.
"There is tough competition in the Indian team. Look, if someone else was going through the rough patch that Kohli is, he would have been dropped from the team by now. But I feel that an established player should be given the benefit of the doubt," he explained.
