Deputy Speaker of the Himachal Assembly Hans Raj sparked a controversy after a viral video shows him allegedly slapping a student while on a visit to a government school.
BJP MLA and Deputy Speaker of the Himachal Assembly Hans Raj has landed in hot water after allegedly slapping a student while on a visit to a government school.
Hans Raj, who represents the Churah assembly constituency of Chamba district, was at the Government Senior Secondary School in Raila to address students on Thursday when the incident reportedly took place.
Video shows the BJP MLA speaking to students in a classroom. He asks a student if he is feeling sick but loses his cool when he notices another boy was laughing. “Kyun hass raha hai bhai (Why are you laughing)?” Hans Raj asks as he walks up to the student and slaps him. The slap is clearly audible in the clip.
The family of the student who was allegedly slapped by the MLA has not filed a complaint so far. In fact, the boy’s father, Riaz Mohammad, said in a video that Hans Raj did not hit his son, but touched him with “love and affection”.
"The (slap) video is a mischief and Hans Raj [MLA] had touched my son with love and affection. I am thankful to him," Riaz Mohammed said in a video. Curiously, it seems Mohammed was being guided by another person off-camera on what to say.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Vikramaditya Singh termed the incident as unfortunate, and demanded action against Deputy Speaker Hans Raj while leveling a string of allegations against him.
"The Deputy speaker of Vidhan Sabha should go to a mental hospital for a check-up. He publicly threatens the officers, uses indecent language and sends lewd text messages. This incident is very unfortunate and the Chief Minister should take action against him," Vikramaditya said.
